When you picture a July 4th celebration, you might think: fireworks, flags, BBQ. But this Independence Day? It was all about love, laughter, and two people saying I do on the edge of paradise. Some love stories take a few unexpected detours before landing in just the right place. For Kassidy & Ryan, that place was their beautiful, sun-soaked Maui venue wedding at Gather Maui, simple, beautiful, and full of heart.

A couple of years ago, Ryan had originally planned to propose after a snowboarding trip in the mountains. The plan? Hit the slopes, have an epic day. Little did she know what was around the corner! A week later, on Valentine’s Day, Ryan asked her to marry him. Totally worth the wait.

Fast forward to Maui, where their wedding day unfolded exactly how they dreamed: carefree, flexible, and full of joy. Surrounded by family, including their three daughters (ages 13, 6, and 1), and even their dog S’mores in spirit, Kassidy and Ryan said “I do” beneath swaying palms and clear blue skies. It was a gorgeous day, as you’ll see below!

The setting at Gather Maui was stunning, the ocean in the distance, a floral arch framing every photo, and their closest loved ones sharing in every sweet, happy moment. It was simple and intimate, but deeply meaningful, the kind of day when you could just feel the love radiating in every direction.

After everything they’ve built together, raising kids, building a home, balancing careers (from Comcast to relocation services), and finding joy in life’s everyday adventures, this day felt like the perfect celebration of their story!

They are high school sweethearts, born-and-raised Alaskans, and quite possibly the most down-to-earth (but also photogenic!) couple we’ve ever met. Logan is about to start medical school in July 2025, but first, he’s getting hands-on experience working at a hospital. Reese, meanwhile, is still in college and dreaming big; she’s two years away from a marketing degree and has her heart set on opening a coffee shop someday. With big dreams, they will forever be by one another’s side…

Their ceremony at Gather Maui was full of love and sweet, quiet emotion. Reese walked in looking absolutely stunning, and Logan? That huge, heartfelt smile when he saw her said it all. Sydney looked absolutely stunning in her cream gown, timeless and elegant with a modern, easy grace that suited her perfectly. Steve looked equally handsome and relaxed, the kind of groom who was clearly just thrilled to be marrying his best friend. Together, they radiated warmth, love, and that laid-back magic Maui does so well. Our photographer had the pleasure of capturing them before the ceremony; the excitement and joy were palpable!

We are so excited to share Christina and Wesley’s elegant Maui venue wedding with you! So, when Christina and Wesley first met at Huntington Beach Library—yes, the library!—and kicked off their first date with Pokémon Go, a walk through the nature park, and boba, they were just two people figuring life out together. Ten years later, after building a life filled with family time, late-night TV sessions, and a glitter-filled proposal on a quiet park bench, they found themselves exchanging vows in one of the most breathtaking venues in all of Hawaii.

Their Maui wedding took place at the Grand Wailea’s Seaside Chapel, a hidden gem tucked within one of Maui’s most iconic luxury resorts. The Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria property, is the kind of place that makes you audibly exhale the moment you step onto the grounds. With lush tropical gardens, waterfalls, koi ponds, and sweeping views of the Pacific, it’s a destination that feels both elevated and effortlessly connected to its surroundings. What we love about this venue—and why it was perfect for Christina and Wesley—is how it blends luxury with ease. The staff at the Grand Wailea are warm, gracious, and incredibly attentive. Couples feel cared for the moment they arrive. The gardens, walkways, and beachfront paths offer a seamless mix of portrait backdrops, from manicured elegance to wild coastal beauty. A Sacred Moment

The Seaside Chapel itself is intimate and serene, with a vaulted ceiling, and tall colored stained-glass windows that fill the space with natural light. It sits at the edge of the resort, just a short walk from the ocean, nestled among palm trees and tropical foliage. The chapel has an air of timeless romance, made even more special by its setting, surrounded by nature, but within reach of all the refined comforts you’d expect from a Waldorf Astoria property.

Their Maui venue wedding ceremony in the Seaside Chapel was full of quiet joy. Watching Christina walk down the aisle with soft light streaming through the windows felt like something out of a painting. Wesley’s reaction said everything, equal parts awe, happiness, and deep love. It was one of those moments that’s hard to put into words but impossible to forget.

Joyful Moments

For Christina and Wesley, this day was all about intention. They kept things small and meaningful, surrounded by the people closest to them. Christina, a nurse with Kaiser Permanente, and Wesley, who works in supply chain at Northrop Grumman, both know the value of time well spent so they planned a day that allowed them to slow down, savor the moment, and just be present with one another. They had their friends and family by their side who were just as excited as we were about their special day. It meant so much to them to have their loved ones share in the celebrations!

This wedding was part of a larger trip with their close-knit group of friends, who usually gather in Mammoth or Tahoe but unanimously agreed that Hawaii was the perfect next stop. As Christina shared, Maui offered “the best of both worlds”—a little city, a little nature, and the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Afterward, we explored the grounds together for portraits. The beauty of the Grand Wailea is that no matter where you are tucked beneath palm trees, strolling past the water features, or standing along the shoreline you’re surrounded by a sense of tranquility and understated grandeur. Christina and Wesley were completely at ease. They laughed, held hands, and took their time. It was a celebration, yes, but also a reflection of the life they’ve built: grounded, joyful, and full of love.

Christina and Wesley always joked about a Hawaii wedding one day. Now, that day has come has arrived!

Of course, we couldn’t resist a walk down to the beach. Just steps from the chapel, the shoreline offered the perfect ending to their portrait session. It was relaxed, romantic, and full of that just-married-in-Maui glow. These portraits? Some of our absolute favorites.
