A true throwback to the slower times in Maui, this lush resort built in the 1960's has been refreshed to its former mid century modern glory. You will feel time slow down at this sprawling property full of ocean views, vast lawns, and old growth trees.

WHY WE LOVE THIS VENUE:

  • It's located on the famous Kaanapali beach, but it is tucked away from the other major resorts so you get much more privacy and quiet than in the more bustling areas of Kaanapali

  • The hotel offers two room categories based on your budget and vision. One category is low rise bungalows on a sprawling lawn with old growth trees. It feels far away from Kaanapali and almost like you were transported to the lush Hana side of the island. The other room options are more traditional in their tower that offer incredible ocean and mountain views.

  • You can choose from a ceremony on a lawn with palm trees and a wide open ocean view or on their bungalow lawn in the shade of old growth trees, but still ocean front.

  • The hotel also has a private beach house it rents out for smaller events so you could have your ceremony just steps from your suite on your own private oceanfront lawn that includes a private pool, hot tub and covered lanai for a dinner after. Contact us for more details on this special location.
  • The property also has an oceanfront Luau so you could make your wedding even more simple by purchasing VIP tickets and take your guests there for your reception. Entertainment, food, beverages all included in one price and just a short walk from your ceremony!
  • There is an oceanfront restaurant on property that you can host a reception dinner at.
  • The resort can also arrange a private oceanfront dinner for your group and our planners can connect you with the resort team for pricing and availability.

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:

  • As with all hotels, there will be hotel guests near your ceremony but your ceremony area is reserved for just your group.

  • The property was built in the 1960's and has a vintage charm but it is not a super modern resort. They have refreshed it and kept it in good repair.

  • Due to state permitting restrictions our photographers are not allowed on the beach in front of the property so any beach photos will need to be taken with a long lens with the photographer on the resort property.

The beach house is a true Hawaii throwback. It's 100 year old cottage was built in the plantation era then moved to this location. It's a cozy cottage with beach chic decor that sits on a large oceanfront property. Near the end of the road in Makena, South Maui this property is quiet and exclusive. One of the only legally permitted oceanfront venues in Makena means it's in demand! With stunning Molokini crater views and crashing waves, your wedding will feel like a dream at this slice of paradise in Maui.

WHY WE LOVE THIS VENUE:

  • Choose from multiple ceremony backdrops, all of which have swaying palms and ocean, but you can opt for more rugged lava rocks behind your ceremony or a manicured lawn with Molokini Crater views.

  • Cottage with a bridal suite and large front porch is great for changing and relaxing before the ceremony and act as a rain backup in case of inclement weather.

  • It has a small but scenic beach in front of the property, due to permitting laws your photographer can not work on the beach but can take photos from the property of the cottage of the wedding couple on the beach.

  • Can accommodate up to 40 guests with a shuttle

  • Total privacy at this location, the beach rarely has beachgoers and the entire property is privately owned.
  • The famous Makena Cove aka secret beach is nearby and easily accessible for couples photos after your ceremony.

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:

  • All shoreline is public property in Hawaii so there could be people fishing nearby but this is rare, they are not allowed on the private property.

  • Limited to Monday- Thursday only without an upcharge.

  • This venue only has parking for 6 cars, so weddings with guest counts over 15 will need to hire a shuttle for their guests. Absolutely no street parking is allowed due to permitting rules.

A dreamy setting in the ruins of an historic 1800's church.

The coral brick walls surround the altar of this rustic Hawaiian wedding venue. Built in 1852 this outdoor chapel offers a rustic yet dreamy setting for your Maui wedding.

WHY WE LOVE THIS VENUE:

  • The large lush property offers plenty of options for photos with the tropical foliage of Hawaii as your backdrop.

  • The altar is beautiful as is or enhanced as you see in the photos to show off your bridal style.

  • A beautiful beach is less than a half mile away for the addition of beach photos.

  • Located in North Kihei, this location is easy to get to from most areas of the island and close to many dining options for a post ceremony reception.

  • The open air chapel offers a more traditional feeling, with a Hawaii twist!

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:

  • There is no rain back up for this location, although it rarely rains in this part of the island.

  • Availability is subject to the church schedule, it is still a working church.

  • The beach is a VERY short car ride away, but is just a little to long to walk in wedding wear, so bride and groom portraits only (no guests) is recommended at the beach.

  • The restrooms are also a bit "rustic" and there is not room to change on site.

Maui Wedding Venue Wrap up...

1. Wedding Budget

The first point on our checklist, and possibly one of the most crucial, is your budget. Budget will essentially dictate all other aspects of your wedding, such as number of wedding guests, wedding vendors and which Maui wedding venues fall within your spending limit.

It's important to have a clear idea of how much you're willing to spend before you start looking at venues. Top wedding venues such as Four Seasons Resort Maui, Olowalu Plantation House, Wailea Beach Resort or King Kamehameha Golf Club can be quite expensive. Also, there are other venues not at a resort that can be a far less expensive option.

Finding wedding packages that include most things you want can be a great way to trim costs as well.

Another vital factor is the guest count. The venue you choose should comfortably accommodate all your wedding guests. You don't want your guests to feel cramped, but you also don't want the venue to feel too large for your party.

For smaller budgets, you can opt for a smaller guest count with just loved ones and closest family members in attendance. Also, there are other venues not at a resort that can be a far less expensive option for ceremonies with minimal guests.

Decide if you want an oceanfront wedding with stunning views, a ceremony in a lush tropical garden with palm trees, or perhaps with panoramic ocean views with a cocktail hour and a champagne toast. Maui has it all!

Each Maui wedding venue will have different offerings that can look drastically different. Most Maui wedding venues will have a great deal of photos to view. This way you can see if the location with work with the style of ceremony look you are going for. Simple Maui wedding has hundreds of blog posts from each venue they work at so use these as a great reference for what your wedding day will look like.

Check if your preferred venue is available on your chosen date. Top wedding venues in Maui can be booked out nearly 2 years in advance. The best wedding venues fill up fast so make sure and book as soon as you have your wedding date established.

It may be a good idea to make a list of your favorite wedding venue locations. That way your wedding planning company can reach out and check date availabilty right away.

Does the venue provide chairs, tables, linens, and other essentials? Can you have a wedding cake delivered or made on-site. Is there separate outdoor event spaces for a reception area or bar services.

These are just a few of the questions you may need to know about the Maui wedding venue you choose. Other popular wedding questions are: does the venue allow a photo booth, what are the options for floral arrangements or are their additional services other couples often choose. Paying attention to each of the details that are important to you will ensure you get what you want for your wedding day.

Consider how easy it will be for your guests to get to the venue. This can be very important if you have elderly or mobility challenged guests.

For example a beach wedding would not be ideal for guests in wheel chairs or those needing walkers. Thinking about parking facilities and proximity to accommodations are also important accessibility factors when considering different outdoor space options.

If you're planning an outdoor wedding, have a backup plan in case of rain. Some Hawaii wedding venues offer both indoor and outdoor areas. You may want to book in a location like Wailea, Maui where it rarely rains receiving only 15 inches of rain annually. This won't guarantee it doesn't rain on your outdoor wedding, but drastically decrease the chances of bad weather.

It's also important to consider the catering options, or any restrictions the venue may have on outside food and beverage. Wedding venues at resorts like the Four Seasons will have full catering services and bartending services. Private estates like Olowalu Plantation can be more planning as catering and a bar service will need to be brought in if allowed at the wedding venue.

One aspect many clients should make sure and review is the venue rental contract. Most Maui wedding venues have a non-refundable deposit, so if you decide to cancel your destination wedding you will often not get a refund for your venue deposit. So check on the policies that go with each event space so you know what to expect.

In conclusion, choosing wedding venues in Maui requires careful consideration of several factors. But if you utilize this list, you'll be well-equipped to make an informed decision. Remember, at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you and your partner are happy with the choice. After all, it's your special day, and it should be everything you've dreamt it would be.
