Some love stories take a few unexpected detours before landing in just the right place. For Kassidy & Ryan, that place was their beautiful, sun-soaked Maui venue wedding at Gather Maui, simple, beautiful, and full of heart.

A couple of years ago, Ryan had originally planned to propose after a snowboarding trip in the mountains. The plan? Hit the slopes, have an epic day. Little did she know what was around the corner! A week later, on Valentine’s Day, Ryan asked her to marry him. Totally worth the wait.

Fast forward to Maui, where their wedding day unfolded exactly how they dreamed: carefree, flexible, and full of joy. Surrounded by family, including their three daughters (ages 13, 6, and 1), and even their dog S’mores in spirit, Kassidy and Ryan said “I do” beneath swaying palms and clear blue skies. The kind where you’re a little tipsy, it’s way past midnight, and you hand a stranger a steaming dumpling as a parting gift — and then, boom. You accidentally meet the love of your life.

That’s exactly how it started for this adorably introverted, karaoke-loving, sushi-obsessed couple. A potsticker. A mutual friend. And Arnell, who knew immediately that there was something special about her. She, on the other hand, was in her “I’m staying single, thanks” era. But Arnell? Persistent. Kind. Low-key charming. And eventually, very, very successful.

Flash forward past sweet moments, shared omakase meals, and a proposal so romantic it could be a Nicholas Sparks novel (yellow-themed surprise beach picnic? coordinated photographer? yellow roses and swan towel animals?!), and we arrive here: a breathtaking wedding at Merriman’s Kapalua on Maui…

An Intimate Celebration

The whole day felt like one long exhale, the kind where everything just makes sense. Their decision to swap a high-effort backyard wedding for a Maui destination celebration? Best idea ever! Not only did it mean less stress and more fun, it gave them something they truly value: a day focused on joy, love, and connection. And of course, aloha! Their Maui venue wedding was an intimate celebration of love, joy, and commitment. It meant the world to them to have their loved ones present.

With their closest people surrounding them, they laughed, hugged, and promised forever. The celebration was intimate but full of energy and brimming with love. They snuck away for some newlywed portraits that surely will leave anyone’s jaw on the floor! From the peaceful blue sky to a sunset that looked straight out of a postcard, the scenery was impossibly photogenic, only outshined by this gorgeous couple!

From San Diego to Oahu to Maui, these two have written a love story filled with shared playlists, quiet nights, and joyful chaos. They balance each other beautifully, have a room that is apparently never quiet (thanks, gaming + karaoke), and now they have a marriage as grounded and joyful as the island they chose to celebrate on.
